DIVING

All dives leave from Mahahual.  We work with several dive shops.  Since we are 30 minutes from the town. our favorite dive shops let us know if a dive is cancelled so that you don't have to make the trip unecessarily.  

BANCO CHINCHORRO

Banco Chinchorro is a favorite destination.  Trips must be reserved at least a day in advance and availability is limited.  Both diving and snorkeling trips are avaialble to Chinchorro. We work closely with Amigos del mar for a memoriable and safe experience.  

TIME: 1 hour each way depending on weather

DURATION: Full day

SNORKEL

Punta Placer, only 800 meters to the north has world class snorkeling.  The area is vast and full of fish and live coral.  Even better, you can find yoursel alone there without another snorkeler kicking you in the head.  Marcia takes people snorkeling in the afternoons when she is available (hopefully often!)  For those who are good swimmers, a trip to the other side of the reef might be an event you remember for the rest of your life.  

Equipment is available to rent for a nominimal fee.

FLY-FISHING VIA GUIDE OR DIY

There are many locations to fly fish nearby.  Permit, Tarpon, Snook, Bonesfish, Jack and Triggerfish can be found within a few kilometers. We work with local guides. Because the guides can book up , we suggest you arrange your guide when  making a reservation at Mayan Beach Garden.

For those searching for a DIY experience, we can suggest a DIY guide. In addition, we have SUP-on-the-fly inflatables for exploring the lagoons on your own and sea-kayaks for sea-fishing. We can pack you a to-go lunch but we do not have fishing gear, so bring your own.  The following website has information on gear and flies.

SPEARFISHING and FREEDIVING

Mayan Beach Garden works with Victor Rosales from  Mahahual Ecotours for Spear Fishing.  His record for safety and fun make him a perfect choice.  The invasive species of Lion fish are his favorite target  and the ceviche made from fresh lion fish is unparalleled (AND GUILT FREE). 

Victor likes to spearfish in Pulticub, close to the southern entrance to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere, but the picture to the right is ia a kayak out past the reef.

Free diving tours also available for those interested in underwater photography and just seeing the undersee world without a tank.
