Road Conditions: (updated 25-Sep-2018)

  • The highway south of Tulum is a beautiful stretch of road. There isn't too much activity along this stretch. If driving in the dark, please slow down and watch for pedestrians along this stretch who may be wearing dark clothing.
  • The road from junction at 307 to the turnoff to Mahahual is great and is fairly well marked! There is, however one or two potholes - please watch for them.
  • The paved road to Uvero/Rio Indio/Placer/Tampalam has a few potholes that you should watch for and signage is poor. Please watch for this area and slow down around curves. We have painted red triangles on the road in areas that you should take particular care around.
  • The beach road has not been graded since April of 2010- and rainy season of 2014 has been brutal, so watch for that especially after rain. In the dark, it is easliest to see potholes along the beachroad because your headlights show them to their best (or worst) advantage.
  • The road to and From Chetumal is a concrete highway. Please watch the Topes when you go through towns.
  • As always - please slow down at night - there are no lights along the highway and it can be very dark. Watch for pedestrians, bicycles, large birds and animals.
